Fantasia Showstoppers has once again created theatre magic, this time inviting audiences under the sea with The Little Mermaid JR. Under the skillful direction of Jake Elston and musical direction of David Catterall, this vibrant production is a joyful escape into the depths of the ocean, where a battle for power unfolds and love ultimately triumphs.
With vibrant costumes, immersive set design, and an undeniably enthusiastic cast, this show certainly makes a splash.

The production unveils two standout vocal performances that anchor the show. Leading with grace and extraordinary talent, Sarah Owens shines as Ariel, her breathtaking rendition of Part of Your World standing out as one of the production’s most moving highlights. Her voice ascends beautifully, capturing the longing and wonder of the young mermaid dreaming of life on land. Equally commanding, Alana Kenn, in her sixth and final performance with Fantasia Showstoppers, revels in her role as Ursula. She delivers Poor Unfortunate Souls with relish, her powerful vocals filling the theatre and making every moment deliciously sinister.
Beyond these standout performances, the cast brings charm, humour, and energy to every scene. Zion Lallana delights as Sebastian the crab, delivering impeccable comic timing and playful energy, while Cameron Clarke makes a strong impression as King Triton but truly steals the spotlight in his second role as Chef Louis. Dressed in a magnificent pair of pantaloons, Clarke’s hilarious turn as the over-the-top French chef had the audience in stitches. Adding even more heart to the production, Bella Stoddart brings an endearing charm to Flounder, making the beloved character just as adorable as in the film. Meanwhile, the mersisters dazzle with their excellent vocal performances and a whole lot of sass, adding sparkle and attitude to every scene they appear in.

Visually, the production is sumptuous. The bright, vibrant costumes bring the underwater world to life, transforming the stage into a dazzling spectacle of colour and movement. From shimmering mermaid tails to the elaborate designs of sea creatures, the creativity in costuming and makeup adds layers of magic and imagination. Each character, whether a majestic sea king, a mischievous crustacean, or a chorus of ocean dwellers, is beautifully realised, enhancing the immersive world of the show. Combined with dynamic choreography and an inventive set design, the production transports audiences into Ariel’s enchanting realm beneath the waves, making every scene a visual delight.

Fantasia Showstoppers’ The Little Mermaid JR is a joyful, vibrant production, brimming with heart and humour. It’s a dazzling celebration of music, magic, and storytelling, leaving audiences enchanted, humming their favourite tunes, and wishing they could stay under the sea just a little longer.
